The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
