He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
