The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
