۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
