And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 And surely they used to say: 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe! 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
