Have you heard the story of Abraham's honoured guests? 24 When they came to him they said, "Peace!" He answered, "Peace!" [saying to himself]. "They are strangers." 25 Then he turned aside to his family secretly and brought a fat (roasted) calf, 26 And he set it before them, and said: wherefore eat ye not? 27 He felt afraid of them; but they said: "Have no fear," and gave him the good news of a wise son. 28 Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" 29 They said, 'So says thy Lord; He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.' 30 ۞ Said [Abraham]: "And what [else] may you have in view, O you [heavenly] messengers?" 31 They replied: “Behold, we have been sent to a wicked people 32 To send down upon them stones of baked clay. 33 Marked by your Lord for those who waste their substance." 34 So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers. 35 But did not find more than a single family of believers. 36 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea, well-known in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment. 37 As (there was) in Moses when We sent him to the Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But he turned to his counsellors, and said: "He is a magician or lunatic." 39 Then We seized him and his army and cast them all into the sea: he himself [Pharaoh] was to blame. 40 And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind 41 It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins. 42 There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of the Thamud, who were told to enjoy themselves for an appointed time. 43 But they revolted against the commandment of their Lord, so the rumbling overtook them while they saw. 44 And they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. 45 And the people of Nuh We destroyed aforetime; verily they were a people transgressing. 46
