The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
