He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
