Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 and full of piety towards his parents; and never was he haughty or rebellious. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
