Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
