He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
