The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 on a fateful Day. 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 A written record, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 upon their faces thou wilt see the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw them said: 'These are they who are astray' 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
