A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and many from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
