The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
