Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gave a little, then was grudging? 34 Does he [claim to] have knowledge of something that is beyond the reach of human perception, so that he can see [it clearly]? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 And (of) Ibrahim who fulfilled (the commandments): 37 That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. 38 And that for man shall be naught save that wherefor he endeavoureth. 39 And that his effort is going to be seen - 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 and that with thy Sustainer is the beginning and the end [of all that exists]; 42 And that it is He Who made (you) laugh and made (you) cry? 43 and that it is He who causes to die, and causes to live 44 That He created pairs, male and female, 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 and that [therefore] it is within His power to bring about a second life; 47 And that it is He Who has given wealth and contentment? 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 It is He who utterly destroyed the ancient tribes of Ad, 50 And Samood, so He spared not 51 And before them, the people of Nooh? Indeed they were more unjust and more rebellious than these! 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 So, which of your Lord's bounties will you doubt?” 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 And do you laugh instead of weeping, 60 while you make merry? 61 Prostrate yourselves before Allah, and serve Him. ۩ 62
