The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and a few from later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
