The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
