The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 for a great Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
