The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
