The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
