The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The people’s reckoning is near, whereas they are in neglect, turned away! 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 In sport being their hearts. And those who do wrong keep secret their private discourse this is but a human being like unto yourselves; will ye then betake yourselves to magic while ye know? 3 He says: 'My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.' 4 "Nay," they say, "(these are) medleys of dream! - Nay, He forged it! - Nay, He is (but) a poet! Let him then bring us a Sign like the ones that were sent to (Prophets) of old!" 5 Not one township that We destroyed before them believed. Would they, then, believe? 6 And We sent not before thee but men unto whom We revealed; so ask the people of the admonition if ye know not. 7 And We did not create them without bodies so they would not eat food – nor that they abide on earth forever. 8 Then We made Our promise good to them, so We delivered them and those whom We pleased, and We destroyed the extravagant. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
