And indeed, the Qur'an is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds. 192 The Faithful Spirit has descended with it, 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 We have thus caused denial of truth to enter into the hearts of the sinners: 200 who will not believe in it, until they see the painful chastisement 201 that will come upon them [on resurrection,] all of a sudden, without their being aware [of its approach]; 202 Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?" 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Did you consider that if We were to let them enjoy life for many years 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And withal, never have We destroyed any community unless it had been warned 208 As a reminder; and never have We been unjust. 209 Not by the Satans has it been brought down; 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 and when you turn among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 who lends an ear to them, and most of them are liars. 223 Poets are followed by the perverse. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 And that they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
