The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
