He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
