The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
