Commemorate Abraham in the Book: He was upright, a prophet. 41 Remember, when he said to his father: "O my father, why do you worship that which can neither hear nor see nor even profit you the least? 42 Father, a knowledge that has not reached you has come to me. So follow me that I may guide you to a Straight Way. 43 "O my father! Worship not Shaitan (Satan). Verily! Shaitan (Satan) has been a rebel against the Most Beneficent (Allah). 44 Father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Compassionate Lord might strike you and you may end up as one of Satan's companions?" 45 He (the father) said: "Do you reject my gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)? If you stop not (this), I will indeed stone you. So get away from me safely before I punish you." 46 [Abraham] replied: "Peace be upon thee! I shall ask my Sustainer to forgive thee: for, behold, He has always been kind unto me. 47 I shall stay away from you and what you worship instead of God. I worship my Lord and hope that my prayers will not be ignored." 48 Then when he had renounced them and that which they worshipped beside Allah, We bestowed on him Is'haq and Ya'qub and each one We made a prophet! 49 And We gave them Our mercy, and assigned for them a true and high repute. 50
