The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
