He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
