Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And [by] ten nights 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 into My Paradise. 30
