The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
