The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Lord, pour patience upon us and let us die as submitters (Muslims)' 126
