The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a few from later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
