He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
