۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
