▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A company of the former peoples 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
