Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
