The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
