Al-A 'araaf 12 of 24
And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah]. 94 Then We gave them good in the place of evil until they became many and said: Distress and happiness did indeed befall our fathers. Then We took them by surprise while they did not perceive. 95 And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." 96 Do the inhabitants of the villages feel secure from Our Might coming to them at night whilst they sleep? 97 Or else did they feel secure against its coming in broad daylight while they played about (care-free)? 98 Did they consider themselves secure from the retribution of God? No one can have such attitude except those who are lost. 99
