And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
