The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
