A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
