a large throng from the ancients, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left. O Companions of the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
