Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
