The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
