The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
