In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
