The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
