He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
