The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 And when the camels are left untended, 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 And when the books are spread, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 and brightening morning, 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 nor is it a word of an accursed Satan. 25 Then where are you going? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
