Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
