Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
